I have a friend who gets re-occurring urinary tract infections.
She recently started taking
a cranberry supplement. Other than uva ursi, what can she
take to get rid of this
re-occurring problem? She is trying to avoid having to be
on an antibiotic.
I don't know what her diet consists of.
Thanks.
Christine
Susun's Response: try these books
I don't do second hand advice. If your friend wants to write
or call I will answer her.
And of course, there is lots of info on this topic in Wise
Woman Herbal for the
Childbearing Year and a section devoted to this in New Menopausal
Years the Wise
Woman Way as well.
She (or you) could read through those sections before contacting
me.
Thank you and Green Blessings, Susun Weed

Fighting
infection and diabeties
I'm not quite sure where to turn with this one...my daughter's
boyfriend has diabetes
and is insulin dependant.
He recently had knee surgery, and has been battling an infection
in the joint ever since.
He's tried various antibiotics with no success. I'm afraid
to recommend some of the
immune boosters available because I don't know enough about
the disease - diabetes.
I'm afraid most of the medical research is above me. I do
know that what is vital to the
health of his knees is to increase the circulation of fresh
blood to the area...but again...
how do we achieve that without interfering with the job the
insulin has to do. We are
going to begin doing some massage and energy work with him.
He's still learning to manage his diet (he's been very bad
about that). We would like to recommend some herbal supplements
to help with his insulin in maintaining his health.
Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated.
Blessed Be,
Ellen
Susun's Response:
Dear Ellen,
Herbal infection fighters are safe for diabetics. Echinacea
tincture is one of my
favorites. A dose is one drop for every pound of body weight
and it needs to be taken
often. In acute infections, I use it every two hours. I have
known it to work when
antibiotics were not effective.
The specific herb to counter infections in the joints is usnea.
Again, use lots and use it frequently. One of my students
helped her mom with usnea after a hip replacement
that caused a severe infection -- to the point they were considering
amputating
her leg!!!!! The usnea killed the infection when no antibiotic
would touch it.
Let me know your results so I can better help others.

Yeast Infection
Hi- I have loaned my book on meno to my friend. So, this
is my question. I am
52 and a year+ past my last cycle. I am a diet controlled
diabetic and have had
frequent vaginal yeast infections and almost continual burning
even after the yeast is
cleared up. I need herbal info to help rebalance my system.
Can't wait for your new
book.
Thanks, Judy
Susun's Response: acidophilus eases itch
Judy,
Here's a crone favorite: Buy a bottle of acidophilus capsules.
Insert one or two
capsules as far up in your vagina as you can and go to sleep.
There will be some drooling,
so you may want to have a towel handy and not sleep on your
very best sheets. I trust
you have ruled out infections such as trichomonas, and any
cervical problems such as
HPV.
